Matthias studied mathematics at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (ETH) Zurich.

He joined KPMG in 2011 and was promoted to Partner in 2018. He leads the Risk Consulting team within Financial Services Consulting.

Matthias advises national and international financial services clients in Switzerland on topics covering the CRO agenda. As an expert in the areas of risk and capital management, he works with clients to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of their front-to-back risk operating model (risk quantification, risk management, risk appetite, governance, reporting, internal controls, etc) and to ensure compliance with new regulatory requirements such as Basel 4.

Before joining KPMG, Matthias worked in the US as a postdoctoral fellow at Cornell University collaborating with financial services firms and banking regulators in the US. Prior to that, he worked at the ETH Zurich’s RiskLab earning a PhD in the area of Financial Mathematics, specializing in the modelling of extreme events.
