Hong Kong Capital Markets Update – Issue 3, May 2019

HKEX’s amendments to Guidance Letters in relation to the environmental, social and governance matters and gender diversity

On 17 May 2019, the Stock Exchange of Hong Kong Limited (the Exchange) published updates relating to environmental, social and governance (ESG) matters: a consultation paper containing proposed changes to its ESG reporting guide and related listing rules; ESG guidance materials; and amendments to Guidance Letter relating to ESG matters and gender diversity.

In its Hong Kong Capital Markets Updates on ESG matters, KPMG notes the Exchange proposed introducing mandatory disclosure requirements and certain changes to the ESG Guide to support and improve issuers’ ESG performance and reporting.

KPMG also notes the Exchange amended its Guidance Letter and ESG guidance materials to provide clarifications on the disclosure of ESG matters in listing documents, and promote board diversity including gender.
