The use of technology in risk and compliance is being heavily advocated by the regulators here in Hong Kong as well as regionally and globally. However, our research and recent work with the HKMA has shown that adoption is still low across the market with many financial institutions still examining potential use cases and corresponding technology solutions.
KPMG and Microsoft are co-hosting a series of webinars together with our solution partners to discuss how financial institutions can adopt RegTech to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of risk management and regulatory compliance.
Event 1 - Digital communication and messaging

Effective surveillance of digital communication and messaging is a key area of focus for both the regulators and senior management with the recent fines in the US from the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) around the use of personal devices when interacting with customers being a case in point. In the UK, the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) has initiated probes on certain institutions and issued guidance on strengthening oversight of digital communications. In Hong Kong, the Securities and Futures Commission (SFC) has issued guidance on remote working which requires intermediaries to establish appropriate surveillance systems for transactions, electronic communications and telephone calls, to detect breaches of legal and regulatory requirements or the intermediary’s own policies and procedures.
Financial institutions need to demonstrate that their surveillance systems cover all relevant forms of electronic communications including instant messaging.
Together with LeapXpert, we will host the first webinar on 25 February covering the “Conduct & Customer Protection” theme, with a focus on areas related to digital communication and messaging such as:
