Goodwill has long been the subject of debate in accounting and the lack of unanimity on it generates future economic benefits has made the assessment of goodwill remarkably difficult.  According to recent data obtained from Capital IQ, goodwill amounted to approximately US$8 trillion for listed companies worldwide. The way companies and other stakeholders determine how successful these acquisitions have been and the apparent lack of information to investors, have been the driver for the IASB’s Goodwill and Impairment project.

Against the backdrop of the IASB’s discussion paper on this hotly debated topic, this webinar explores how buyers in M&A transactions value a business and where acquisition premiums come about.  The panelists would also discuss the impact on market’s perception of the business’ values arising from the current impairment requirements under IAS 36, the challenges and criticisms on the current approach to the impairment test; as well as potential pitfalls arising from the resulting valuation exercise.

We are privileged to have Janet Cheung, Head of Valuation & Modelling Services at KPMG and Cyan Sze, Partner of Deal Advisory to join Serene Seah-Tan, host of the webinar, in sharing their insights and experiences.
