How did you get involved with KPMG and what made you decide to join us?
I was told about the KPMG Career Dinner during a lecture on tax law while I was studying law at the University of Bern. I then took part in the dinner and made contact with KPMG, or rather its employees, for the first time. I loved the warm, friendly atmosphere at the Career Dinner, and the opportunities for future advancement and professional development, so I applied to join the tax department in Bern just a few days later – and two and a half years on I’m still here, now working as a Senior Consultant.
What are, in your view, the greatest benefits of working for KPMG?
In the tax department, we don’t just cover tax-related matters – we also deal with an array of other legal and business topics relating to both national and international issues alike. This means that no two days are the same, and you learn something new every day.
How does KPMG support you to learn and grow?
Contrary to what many people opt for, I decided to do a master’s degree in national and international taxation. In principle, there is the expectation in the tax department that you will complete the training to become a tax expert. Nevertheless, KPMG is supporting me on my rather unusual training path, catering to my personal interests and requests. Plus, KPMG also offers internal learning events that contribute to my ongoing development.
What is your personal career highlight at KPMG?
I have offered guidance and support to large national and international companies going through restructurings on many occasions. It’s almost like rebuilding a house: you start with the status quo and by the end, you’re proud to see that the house has been, or is being, rebuilt in line with the steps you’ve recommended.
What would you tell people who are not sure if they should join KPMG?
KPMG doesn’t just offer great future prospects on the job front: there’s also the opportunity to gain valuable life experience, thanks to the challenges of your day-to-day work and the people you work with day in, day out. The interpersonal aspect is very important, and KPMG gives it a comparable amount of support. After all, teams can only be successful and drive things forward if they’re in good shape themselves.
