Many non-resident businesses and platform operators must register and start collecting GST/HST on July 1, 2021. These new obligations are part of recent changes to the GST/HST rules to require some non-resident businesses, and many Canadian and foreign platform operators, to register and collect GST/HST on certain sales of intangible personal property (IPP), services and qualifying goods. To comply with these new changes, many affected businesses and platform operators should register for the new simplified GST/HST registration system on the CRA's new portal that should be available starting June 25, 2021 (which was previously announced to start June 21, 2021). The CRA also released new guidance relating to the registration process under the new simplified GST/HST registration system.
