Employers and property owners may be affected by new relief under the CEWS and CERS.
Certain employers and property owners may be affected by proposed new relief under the Canada Emergency Wage Subsidy (CEWS) and Canada Emergency Rent Subsidy (CERS). Finance has now introduced draft technical amendments to ease the revenue decline calculation to qualify for the CEWS for the December 20, 2020 to January 16, 2021 period, and to allow certain applicants that rent property to a non-arm's-length entity to qualify for the Lockdown Support Subsidy. Employers and property owners may want to review these proposals and determine whether they may benefit from any relieving measures. The CRA has indicated that it will administer the subsidies on the basis of the draft legislation.
