Quebec grants late-filing penalty relief for income tax returns filed by September 30
Revenu Quebec has confirmed that it will not charge taxpayers late-filing penalties on income tax returns filed by September 30, 2020. As a result, Revenu Quebec is now generally harmonized with the CRA, which says it will not impose penalties and interest (including late-filing penalties) on taxpayers who file their income tax return and make their tax payments by September 30, 2020.
Previously, both the CRA and Revenu Quebec extended income tax payment deadlines to September 30, 2020, for certain income tax return payments for individuals, corporations, and trusts, including instalment payments, which previously had an extended payment deadline of September 1, 2020 for federal and Quebec income tax purposes (see TaxNewsFlash-Canada 2020-65, "Income Tax Payment Deadlines Extended to September 30".)
