Finance announced that Canada's Tax Convention with Madagascar entered into force on June 3, 2020. The Convention, which was signed on November 24, 2016, reflects the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development's (OECD) standards for the exchange of tax information.

The Convention will apply, for Canadian withholding tax purposes, to amounts paid or credited to non-residents on or after January 1, 2021. For other Canadian taxes, the Convention will apply for taxation years beginning on or after January 1, 2021.
