The online application for the B.C. Emergency Benefit for Workers opens May 1, 2020. The benefit provides a one-time tax-free $1,000 payment to eligible individual taxpayers in B.C., whose ability to work has been affected because of COVID-19.

B.C. residents may be eligible for this benefit if they:

  • Are approved for the federal Canada Emergency Response Benefit
  • Do not receive provincial income or disability assistance
  • Either file or agree to file, a 2019 B.C. income tax return

This benefit was previously introduced by the province on March 24, 2020, as part of a provincial COVID-19 relief package.
