Two tax related measures are included in Canada's newly launched COVID-19 Response Fund. Under one measure, businesses may be able to make flexible arrangements with the CRA if they face difficulties related to COVID-19 when they are trying to meet their payment obligations (further details are not yet available). A second newly announced change will allow workers who are either in quarantine or who have been directed to self-isolate, to claim Employment Insurance (EI) sickness benefits without having to wait through the mandatory one-week waiting period, so they can be paid for the first week of their claim. The government also says it is also exploring income support for those who currently don't qualify for the program.
