B.C. has just released new guidance on its upcoming employer health tax (EHT).
British Columbian charities and non-profit employers in particular will want to take note of an EHT exemption that will apply to specific locations that have a payroll of $1.5 million or less. Newly published guidance touches on this exemption and other important new details about the EHT, which will be introduced as legislation in the fall. British Columbia employers with at least $500,000 in payroll will have to pay EHT and file an annual health tax return. The new EHT will apply to employees starting January 2019.
More details on the EHT, including on how to register and pay the EHT online, will be available after the legislation is enacted in fall 2018.
