National Post-Secondary Education Symposium

Innovating for the future

KPMG in Canada's Education practice will be hosting our National Post-Secondary Education Symposium on September 28, 2017 in Vancouver, BC. This year’s theme, Innovating for the future, unpacks and discusses several ways post-secondary institutions are ‘innovating’ within the sector to not only remain viable in a highly competitive market, but also to transform their universities and colleges to meet the needs of the future. This symposium will include a keynote and four panel discussions. In addition, a networking reception will be held after the symposium. Please note breakfast and lunch will also be provided.

In addition to our full day symposium, we will be hosting a half day interactive, experiential, activity based session on Friday, September 29, 2017 which will allow participants to identify if implementing a LEAN Management System (LMS) is appropriate for their institution. It will include ways to measure improvement needs, organizational readiness, and how to understand who and what your "customer" really wants from your institution.

Workshop on LEAN in Education: Friday, September 29, 2017

Presented by Dale Schattenkirk – After the session the participants will understand:

  • the history and principles of LEAN in the public sector and education and how it differs from other industries and services;
  • how to create a road map to engage the hearts and minds of the people in your organization to embrace a quality improvement journey;
  • how to identify your current state of a quality management system versus your ideal states, and to create a multi-year organizational transformation plan;
  • how to measure Return On Investment and satisfaction of your students, staff and other stakeholders;
  • how to review a leadership engagement plan for higher education.
