Michael W. Stewart

Michael Stewart is a Partner with KPMG’s banking and finance group with 35 years of professional experience. Michael provides both audit and non-audit services to Canadian and foreign-based banks, investment dealers and leasing and finance companies. Michael has practiced tax in the financial services area since 1988 and he is a leader in the practice. He serves as the firm’s global lead tax partner for some of the top Canadian financial institutions. He has been involved in a number of special projects including acquisition reviews, structuring of inbound and outbound investment opportunities, design and implementation of tax structures for financial institutions leading to reductions in their effective tax rate and acts as a resource in the development of capital markets products designed to take advantage of Canadian and foreign tax rules.
