Simon is a Partner with the Indirect Tax Group of KPMG Canada in Toronto, with a practice focused on insurance, banking and investment plans. He has 15 years of tax planning and policy experience. Before joining KPMG, Simon headed the HST policy group at the Ontario Ministry of Finance. Simon also spent several years practicing income tax with one of Canada’s leading law firms. Simon advises some of the world’s largest insurers and banks on indirect tax compliance, product taxation and the Canadian GST/HST/QST impact of complex cross-border transactions.
Simon is a member of KPMG’s Global Insurance Premium Taxation Working Group, and sits on CPA Canada’s Commodity Tax Committee. He is also one of Canada’s leading practitioners on the taxation of Fintech and the sharing economy. He presents regularly at the annual CLHIA tax conference and at the CPA Canada annual commodity tax symposium. He is an adjunct lecturer in the LL.M. program at UBC’s Allard School of Law.
