Shaira’s practice focuses on domestic and international corporate tax planning. She counsels clients on numerous tax matters including inbound and outbound investment, financing, and mergers and acquisitions. She frequently consults on tax issues arising in connection with the acquisition of Canadian entities by foreign corporations as well as the acquisition of foreign entities by Canadian corporations.
In addition to tax planning, Shaira has experience assisting clients with the management and resolution of Canadian tax audits and appeals. This includes preparing submissions, notice of objections, advising clients with respect to voluntary disclosures, advance tax rulings, and interest relief applications, negotiating with tax authorities, and formulating litigation strategies.
Shaira has worked with clients across a variety of industries including real estate, natural resources, health care, banking and finance.
Shaira writes and speaks frequently on domestic and cross-border tax issues. In the past, she has presented at the Canadian Petroleum Tax Society Fall Lecture Series Transaction Costs” and the Canadian Tax Foundation’s Prairie Provinces Annual Conference on “Cross-Border Issues for Private Companies: The Basics”.
