Michael Long is a Partner in KPMG’s mining tax practice in Toronto, Canada with over a decade of professional experience. Michael exclusively provides tax services to Canadian and multinational companies engaged in the mining industry.
Michael provides deep, highly specialized tax knowledge and experience to companies in the mining industry. He is well versed and experienced in the Canadian income, mining, and royalty tax regimes applicable to companies at all stages of the mining life cycle.
Michael has hands-on experience with Canada's provincial and territorial mining and royalty tax regimes, including British Columbia, Manitoba, Ontario, Quebec, Newfoundland, the Northwest Territories and Nunavut.
Michael’s practice includes providing tax advice in respect of acquisitions, financings and reorganizations, as well as ongoing day to day tax advisory, compliance and accounting services.
Michael’s client base puts him in frequent contact with KPMG’s global mining network, and he has worked with and understand the tax regimes applicable to his client’s foreign operations.
Michael is the co-founder and a director of Young Mining Professionals Toronto and also a member of the PDAC’s Finance and Taxation Committee.
