Thanks to everyone who took part in the Healthcare roundtables in October.

With a view to better understand what it will take to improve health outcomes, while creating greater accessibility and efficiency, we brought together healthcare leaders, insurers, and charitable organisations to discuss the opportunities and implications of making changes to Bermuda’s healthcare system. The discussion was well-timed, given the Throne Speech in November 2018, and the government’s commitment to reforming healthcare legislation.

The following six key themes emerged from the roundtables:

  1. Political championship is needed to make key decisions in the best interest of society;
  2. Modernise legislation and implement new regulations and enforcement of standards in terms of allied health professionals;
  3. Reduction of administrative costs through efficiency such as digitisation, and pooling of insureds;
  4. Manage increasing overseas care;
  5. Follow leading practice by offering nurse-led clinics and nurse practitioners; and
  6. Greater transparency of pricing, so the public can make informed decisions.

For more information on the six themes and the views of private and public sector healthcare stakeholders, check out the Roundtable Summary.
