Stefano leads KPMG’s efforts globally to help companies and governments deal with today’s geopolitical challenges.

Background and Experience

  • Stefano leads KPMG’s efforts globally to help companies and governments deal with today’s geopolitical challenges. By joining the dots between the macro political trends and pressing challenges in different sectors, Stefano helps identify the 'now what' of geopolitics for global businesses through strategic scenario planning, due diligence and geopolitical risk management. With an academic background in international relations, diplomacy and international law, Stefano brings to the role several years of management consulting practice in Australia, assisting corporate and government clients navigate complex regulatory environments worldwide.
  • Stefano joined the KPMG in 2015, after completing a bilingual master’s degree (English, French) in international law, focusing extensively on trade, investment and intellectual property law. Stefano joined KPMG after spending time as a fellow at TradeLab, a trade and investment law broker, and as a junior economic and social affairs expert at the European Union’s Delegation to the UN. Stefano is a dual citizen of Australia and Italy.
  • He has extensive knowledge in the field of geopolitics, government affairs, international trade law, indirect tax policy and public international law. At KPMG Australia, Stefano provided regulatory strategy advice and trade policy advice, both domestically and internationally. His engagements encompassed a wide range of policy portfolios including trade, excise and other taxes, regulatory freedoms, competition policy and investment.
  • Outside of Australia, Stefano advised clients on the commercial dimension of geopolitical trends, as well as a range of trade, economic and other regulatory policy issues in emerging markets. With a particular focus on the Asia-Pacific region, he as assisted clients addressing policy challenges in various markets including South Korea, Indonesia, Thailand, Vietnam, the Philippines, China, India, Pakistan, Myanmar, Malaysia, Kenya, Colombia, Brazil and Mexico.
  • More specifically, Stefano served as public affairs, trade and tax policy adviser to a range of industry associations and global clients.In this role, he provides advice on public affairs campaigns, market access, economic reform, free trade agreement negotiations and major policy developments in key Asia-Pacific, Latin American, European and African markets affecting the industries’ interests. Stefano has also delivered policy workshops with senior government and industry stakeholders in various markets around the world, including, for example, Hong Kong, the Philippines, Singapore, Colombia and Brazil.
  • In addition to English, Stefano is fluent in Italian and French and possesses a basic working knowledge of Spanish. He is currently studying Hebrew.
  • Outside of KPMG, Stefano enjoys working as a cycling tour guide, competing in Ironman triathlons and serving as an Infantry Soldier in the Royal Australian Infantry Corps.
