2019 Summer intern

I am going into my final year at University of Western Ontario in London, Canada, where I am studying International Relations. Prior to attending university, I was fortunate enough to meet KPMG’s Wanda Armstrong at a high school networking event. We discussed all of the different opportunities KPMG had to offer, one being KPMG’s work-shadowing programme. From this discussion, I decided I wanted to be a part of their programme in hopes of finding a career path that suits me.  Whilst work-shadowing, I got to meet a lot of different KPMG professionals and interns. They were all very welcoming and took the time to discuss their experiences with me. At the end of the programme, I knew I wanted to see what else KPMG had to offer and I applied to be a part of their summer internship. This is now my third year interning at KPMG in the Advisory practice.

Over my three internships with KPMG, I can say it has been a phenomenal experience and has helped me grow personally as well as directed me into my future career aspirations.  I am delighted to return every year and expand my knowledge and learn more about KPMG and their involvement within the community. With KPMG, I have been able to experience client-facing projects and work alongside members of the organisation with years of experience. As an intern, we also get the chance to be a part of KPMG’s community involvement, where we dedicate our time to charities like Meal on Wheels, Habitat for Humanity, Pembroke Rest Home, and volunteering at the Aquarium.

My experience over the past three summers has encouraged and secured my plans to pursue a career in Forensic Accounting. Upon graduating, I plan to obtain my ACAMS and International Compliance Association certifications. I’m also interested in completing my Masters in Forensic Accounting. Over my KPMG journey, I’ve learned that it’s important to network and make connections as early as possible in this industry. One piece of advice would be to explore different service lines until you find something that interests you. For instance, at KPMG I have worked in the Advisory practice and I had the opportunity to work within different services lines which helped guide me into my future career paths. KPMG Summer Internship Programme has been a great learning experience and I would highly recommend everyone to apply for a position.
