Audit, Tax and Advisory firm, KPMG in Bahrain, is hosting a seminar to discuss Kingdom of Bahrain’s new Personal Data Protection Law and its impact on businesses. The half-day event is scheduled to take place on Sunday, 13 January 2019, at the Downtown Rotana hotel under the theme “Data Privacy: As a way of life.”

The new law aims to transform the way in which companies will need to collect, store, use, disclose and dispose personal and sensitive information of their stakeholders. The event will be the first of its kind in Bahrain, bringing a new set of compliance formalities and expectations that businesses across all sectors will need to comply with. According to the new law, organizations are expected to take certain strategic measures to ensure efficient, secure and effective processing of personal and sensitive data of all their stakeholders including customers, suppliers and employees.

Bahrain’s Personal Data Protection Law will come into effect by 1 August 2019. Therefore, businesses are expected to fully understand the new regulations, and make the necessary changes to enable ongoing compliance. During the event, KPMG experts will present practical steps that organizations can take to ensure system, infrastructure and resource readiness in time. The session will also highlight the role of cyber security and artificial intelligence in data protection.

Jeyapriya Partiban, Partner and Head of Risk Consulting at KPMG in Bahrain, commented on the upcoming event and said “I believe that the new law represents a positive change towards a more ‘privacy-conscious’ culture. Meeting the regulatory obligations will soon be mandatory, however, this also represents a valuable opportunity for organizations to review and upgrade their governance infrastructure, while enhancing their data collection and protection strategies by ensuring transparency, citizens’ rights and accountability are in their top priorities. Our event will be an ideal platform for business leaders and executives to obtain deeper insights on the new law and learn how to turn the challenges posed by compliance into strategic business opportunities.”
