Global CEOs’ attitudes and priorities have changed during this period of unprecedented disruption due to COVID-19. Our global Telecoms Industry CEO Outlook reveals how leaders have evolved their strategies since the onset of the disruption.

KPMG initially surveyed CEOs in January and February of 2020, before many key markets felt the full impact of the virus. In July and August, we conducted a follow-up survey to understand how CEO thinking evolved over the ensuing months. Key findings include the following:

  • The importance of digital transformation and emerging technology is clear with 79 percent of CEOs saying their investment into digitizing operations has accelerated by months or years as a result of the pandemic.
  • Talent and supply chain risks are now the top obstacles to growth, after not even registering as threats at the beginning of 2020.
  • There is significant focus on ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) practices with 72 percent of global telecoms leaders believing managing climate-related risks will be a key factor in keeping their jobs.
