Insight into the developments of NPLs in Bulgaria

“In recent years, financial institutions have looked to divest their NPL portfolios in countries from the CEE region, which would free management time and channel efforts towards restoring the credit market. Due to the relatively small size of transactions, domestic investors who benefit from an established market presence and local knowledge have been among the most active bidders. We are currently observing an increase in the regularity of loan portfolio offerings, albeit relatively smaller package sizes. In Bulgaria, the NPL market has seen two sizeable corporate portfolio deals during the first half of 2017. Sellers now have improved their understanding of the information requirements of potential buyers and are spending quality preparatory time, on the basis of which a higher market activity in the upcoming year could be expected.”
