Costa Rica: Moratorium on VAT penalties

A law providing a moratorium on penalties related to value added tax (VAT) deficiencies was published on 10 July 2019 in the official gazette.

The law provides for relief from imposition of VAT-related penalties for a three-month period. This relief only applies for penalties; it does not exempt VAT-payers from submitting tax returns or from remitting tax payments.

“Large taxpayers” and those operating under the GETES (large territorial companies) program are excluded from the VAT penalty moratorium.
