Nigeria: Tax holiday, taxpayers in “pioneer” industries

Nigeria’s list of “pioneer” industries and products reflects a list of sectors for which certain tax incentives are available.

Pioneer status entitles qualifying entities and companies to an income tax “holiday” for up to five years (three years initially and renewable for an additional two years). In addition to the income tax holiday, pioneer companies may enjoy other benefits including an exemption from withholding tax on dividends paid out of “pioneer profits.” 

The pioneer list comprises some 99 pioneer industries in the following sectors: 

  • Agriculture
  • Mining and quarrying
  • Manufacturing
  • Electricity and gas supply
  • Waste management
  • Construction
  • Trade
  • Information and communications
  • Professional services
  • Financial services
  • Administrative services
