KPMG, in partnership with Arup and MER Consult, is pleased to have been awarded the Strategic Business Case project for a potential future faster rail link between Perth and Bunbury (approximately 200km south of Perth).

Client: Public Transport Authority of Western Australia
Project: Strategic Business Case
Location: Western Australia
Sector: Transport
Services: Business Case and Economic Advisory Services

The project

The Strategic Business Case will help to guide future investment decisions by outlining the economic, social and transport outcomes associated with options to improve public transport travel between Perth, Bunbury and surrounding areas.

Next steps

The joint federal and state funded planning study will consider a range of potential public transport links between Perth and Bunbury, with the Strategic Business Case expected to be ready in mid-2024.

This strategic business case is the first step in understanding what a faster rail transport link between Perth and Bunbury might look like. It will use population data, travel patterns, land use planning and other metrics to assess the project’s benefits, which will help guide us when making decisions about its development.

Hon Rita Saffioti MLA
Minister for Transport; Planning; Ports

We recognise the strategic importance of the project to the WA Government and community, and the value of improved public transport services in providing for the future needs of the regions – facilitating future growth ambitions, competitiveness and liveability.
