As local government organisations navigate the ongoing COVID-19 crisis, they have taken steps to leverage this catalyst for change to help transform their organisations – implementing both immediate solutions and ones which ultimately will result in longer term transformations to help improve financial sustainability and organisational performance within the sector.

In May 2020, KPMG partnered with the Public Sector Network (PSN) on the Local Government Transformation event, the third in our regular series. During this year’s series, we heard from a wide range of local government experts including CEOs, planners and policy makers, consultants and community leaders from Australia and New Zealand, on how their organisations were adapting to the current times.

Through these events, we identified four important insights other council leaders should consider based on perspectives and experiences from local governments across these two countries as we navigate the realities of COVID-19 together.
