At any one time, there are a range of grants available for companies to access across different industries and for certain activities. Recently, the National Energy Resources Australia (NERA) Growth Centre launched the Clean Technology Projects grant program.

The purpose of the grant is to provide funding to projects that demonstrate the integration of clean technology solutions within the energy sector (being oil, gas, uranium and coal extraction and processing operations) with the objective of improving energy efficiency, productivity and sustainability.

Eligible projects can include solutions for renewable energy, hybrid energy, smart grid, energy storage, energy efficiency and waste management amongst others and have a project duration of less than two years.

To be eligible, applicants must an Australian registered company and have access to, or ownership of the intellectual property necessary to conduct the project being funded.  It is also a requirement that the proposed projects are undertaken in collaboration with other parties.

NERA project funding can be between $50,000 to $3 million with the project participants required to contribute, at a minimum, an equal cash amount.

Proposed projects must be linked to one or more of the knowledge priorities identified in the NERA Sector Competitiveness Plan and must demonstrate clear commercialisation applications, pathways and implementation timeframes noting that project Funds are not intended to support discovery or basic research.

To apply for funding, applications must first lodge an Expression of Interest (EOI) and then, if successful, proceed to a more detail proposal stage. Please note that the lodgment deadline for EOI’s is 31 August 2017 and further detail can be found at the NERA website.
