Investment in the Australian fintech sector has risen from $US53 million in 2012 to over $U675m in 2016. The number of fintech startups in Australia has increased from less than 100 in 2014 to approximately 650+ companies today.

The Australian fintech ecosystem is becoming increasingly diverse, with 10 fintech subsectors having more than 20 fintechs operating locally.

The two largest sectors by number of fintech companies, as well as investment, are payments and lending. Areas such as wealthtech and capital markets continue to grow, alongside the emergence of newer categories such as regtech, blockchain and insurtech.

As of September 2018, the landscape is open to new submissions and suggested changes. For any requests, please contact Braedon Reilly, Fintech Lead at KPMG High Growth Ventures.
