David Sofrà and Rick Kimberley discuss a new grant scheme from the Queensland government to boost youth employment.
In order to address youth unemployment in Queensland, a “Youth Boost” grant of up to $20,000 will be paid to employers for hiring workers aged between 15 and 24 in regional Queensland. This doubles the amount previously available under the Regional Queensland Back to Work Scheme.
The incentive is limited, and available for 3 months only (between 1 December 2016 and 28 February 2017), a period strategically chosen by the Government to coincide with the end of the school and tertiary year. Employers need to act fast to avoid missing out, and consider whether it would be appropriate to fast forward their recruitment plans to coincide with the 3 month eligibility period.
With the introduction of the Youth Boost scheme and the Queensland Back to Work Scheme, the following grants are now available to employers in regional Queensland:
