Barry has extensive experience in energy and climate, economic policy and governance. He draws on international perspectives and networks to complement his deep energy experience within Australia. Barry works with clients to better anticipate and shape the energy transition that is underway – developing strategies to achieve net zero emissions, assessing potential government policy directions, and those of other stakeholders, to understand opportunities and risks. He joined KPMG in 2021.

Prior to KPMG, Barry led the development and advocacy of energy and climate policy positions for a major energy company in 2019-2020. He brings extensive experience from the Federal Government, where he led the development of the Carbon Pollution Reduction Scheme in 2008-2010 and managed a range of climate and energy programs. He was Deputy Secretary in the Treasury and led the economic policy stream within Australia’s G20 presidency in 2014. He represented Australia and other mainly Pacific countries on the Executive Board of the International Monetary Fund 2014-2016 and was a visiting fellow in the Brookings Institution in 2017. He also worked in senior roles in the Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet.
