As part of the People Services group, the Employment Tax (ET) team fulfils client needs by offering employment tax compliance and advisory services. The diverse range of employment tax obligations, including Pay-As-You-Go Withholding, Fringe Benefits Tax (FBT), Payroll Tax and Superannuation, creates a vast and complex tax landscape for employers to navigate. The ET team seeks to cut through this complexity for employers by providing assistance with compliance obligations, as well as detailed advice on complex employment tax issues.
The ET team works with a broad range of clients, whose challenges and needs are varied but well understood by the team. Using an exciting suite of new technology, the ET team is able to satisfy a range of needs, for clients varying in size and complexity. The ET team operates as a well-connected national team. The team culture is inclusive and engaging, with people who are supportive and willing to help each other.
On an average day, you will be assisting a number of different clients in a variety of ways, including liaising with and advising them through phone and face-to-face meetings as well as through email correspondence. You will have a range of projects to work on, spanning all aspects of the ET spectrum. You will be working closely with your ET colleagues, attending client meetings and working through projects as well as actively participating in internal events such as training and team meetings.
When you have a big project on, the whole team rallies to meet client expectations. In your first year, there are lots of different taxes to familiarise yourself with. You’ll expand on the skills you have learned at university, but you’ll also learn plenty of new skills. As you grow your experience, you’ll develop a strong knowledge of the various employment tax areas. On top of this, you will grow and develop your core professional skills, including communication, organisation and soft skills. The rapid introduction of new technology may see you develop specific skills in this area and help to teach others in the team.
