Grad recruitment: Are you the explorer?

In a nutshell, what does your business group/service line do?

Solution 49˟ uses a human-centred design approach to enhance decision-making in all its forms. Through our focus on decision-making, we help our clients deliver their customer engagement and operational strategies. We do this by conceiving and implementing intelligent systems, architectures, processes and new operating models.

We design, develop and deploy solutions that digitise and automate clients’ decision making processes. Our work can involve embedding artificial intelligence, machine-based learning, cognitive computing, advanced analytics, probabilistic reasoning and deterministic business rules management into core processes and functions within client organisations.

Our team includes a broad spectrum of skills from strategists to statisticians, scientists to software developers, anthropologists to behavioural economists. The team also engage socially and many are friends outside of work and participate in events together like Oxfam Walk, The Colour Run, Tough Mudder, the list goes on.

What does the average day look like?

A normal day in the Solution 49x team usually starts with arriving at the client’s site and working alongside KPMG colleagues and client project team members. If you’re not on a client engagement at the time, you will come into the new flexible working space at the KPMG office and grab a free desk near your friends (who also happen to be your colleagues).

When you first arrive you typically check emails and attend an agile Stand-Up to report your progress/achievements and to plan for the day. Afterwards, you grab a group of friends and duck out to get a quick morning coffee at your local favourite café.

During the day your work ranges from creating information strategies and solution designs, to creating proposals for clients, engaging client stakeholders, implementing software, writing analytics code and developing cognitive computing solutions.

At the end of the day you may discuss emerging technologies with your colleagues on the way to a Data Science Meetup. Finally, you head home to spend time with your family and friends.

What will I learn in the first year?

In the first year you’ll learn foundational consulting skills like written communication skills, presentation skills, structured problem solving and stakeholder management. You’ll develop the ability to communicate complicated concepts to clients through storytelling. You’ll also learn about the Solution 49x Human Centred Design method and the different types of analytical and emerging software you can use along with how to write and develop data products.

What’s the best part of the role?

The quality of the people we work with – our team is a close knit group, who are always looking to be inspired by new technologies and innovations. We constantly challenge one another to develop professionally and create better outcomes for our clients.
