In a nutshell, what does your business group/service line do?

KPMG’s Audit practice assists clients fulfil their strategic and operational objectives through the provision of audit and assurance services. We provide independent opinions which support the integrity and accuracy of client information which enhances its credibility when issued in the public domain and we help our clients identify errors and incidences of non-compliance in internal information and controls and opportunities to improve their systems and processes.

Our core business is the provision of financial statement audits, which are undertaken pursuant to a range of laws and regulations. In addition to regulated work, we also have strong capability to provide assurance over a broad range of subject matter, both financial and non-financial in nature. Financial assurance can address non statutory financial information such as earnings metrics, ratios, covenant compliance and KPIs while non-financial information can include environmental metrics like emissions, water usage, waste production or safety performance, KPIs and internal controls.

The Audit practice is currently experiencing significant change as we develop new audit techniques and tools to enhance the quality and efficiency of our audit processes and to enable us to effectively audit the enormous volumes of data that modern organisations produce. Audit Data & Analytics, a specialist area that focuses on enhancing audit quality, providing client insights and automation is a key part of this. Sitting within the broader Audit division, it provides specialist data support for audit teams from planning through to execution.

What does the average day look like?

One of the appealing aspects of the audit practice is the unpredictability and variety that our people encounter each day, so there really isn’t a ‘typical day’. Generally you’ll be juggling a wide range of responsibilities like client management via meetings or calls. You may also work closely with the data & analytics team around technical issues. During the first year of a career, you’ll develop skills and experience across all aspects of the KPMG performance framework. This framework underpins a structured learning program together with on the job learning. In addition to building on the technical knowledge gained during your studies, you’ll quickly mature as you build base skills across communication, high quality delivery, interpersonal and client comms, personal effectiveness and leadership.

What’s the best part of the role?
