UAE Female Leaders Outlook

The world today is becoming increasingly volatile, uncertain, complex and ambiguous, with technology and digitilization on the rise. Finding the right digital know-how and qualified employees for the inevitable transformation is a challenge. Many studies show that gender diversity has a positive effect on corporate success. Mixed teams are more successful because they consider different experiences and perspectives.

The 2018 UAE Female Leaders Outlook, which we believe is the first survey of its kind in the Emirates. The report is based on a number of interviews with senior female management across a comprehensive range of sectors of the UAE economy. It represents the voice of female leaders who understand the times we live in, are business-savvy and instinctively develop themselves and their skills to enhance their position in the workplace of the future. Put simply, we believe our research shows that female leaders are prepared for the current technological revolution, and the digital age holds the potential to be the women’s era.

Key findings include:

  • Growth
    Seventy-six percent of UAE Female Leaders (UFLs) are satisfied with the growth outlook for their companies compared to 77% of their global counterparts. For 36% of the UFLs, organic growth is at the top of the strategic agenda for the next three years.
  • Digitization
    More than three-quarters of female leaders in the UAE view technology disruptions as an opportunity.  However, less than half of those surveyed said that artificial intelligence, Blockchain, 3D printing and mixed reality are areas in which they feel comfortable. 
  • Career expectations
    When asked what the most crucial factor for success was, UFLs first choice was an 'active personal network'—this was also the highest ranked globally. 'Thorough know-how of new technologies' was ranked second, followed by 'courage to make unpopular decisions' and 'strong communication skills'. 
  • Harnessing disruption
    UFLs use data analyses to make strategic decisions. Seventy-nine percent state their company will increase the use of predictive modeling or analytics in the next three years. At the same time, 42% of UFLs are planning to increase the use of unstructured data (i.e. text heavy) compared with structured data (i.e. primary numeric or fixed field) over the next three years.
