The report provides industry leaders with analysis, insights and forward-looking views of the top listed commercial banks across Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and United Arab Emirates for the year ended 31 December 2017. It also compares results and key performance indicators across the GCC.

The key trends, largely positive, were particularly impressive given the unique year for the region both politically and economically thus reflecting the resilience of the banking sector. The report also highlights the increased optimism on the back of these positive financial results coupled with the rising oil price environment, resulting in banks shifting horizons from a more conservative approach we have witnessed in recent times to a more innovation and growth driven mindset, albeit in a measured manner.

Key highlights:

  • Robust asset and profitability growth
  • Lower loan impairment and NPL ratios
  • Increased cost efficiencies
  • Improved capital positions
  • Key predictions for 2018
